Y’all, let us sing !
“It is of The LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV
Hmm!🤔 “The steadfast Love of The LORD never ceases! They are new EVERY morning” Ever heard that? 🙏
“We serve a COMPASSIONATE GOD!”
I. The setting of when and how this was written:
Jeremiah is sitting in a cave overlooking Jerusalem.
He weeps as he sees the rubble of the once glorious city that men called the perfection of beauty.
He smells the stench of decaying bodies.
He sees poor starving people poking through the rubble.
They were once proud – but now broken.
The tragedy is that this could have been averted!
he being ‘sent’ by ‘Something’ had warned them to repent and seek God.
They mocked him and imprisoned him.
And they continued to rebel against God doing THEIR will, wants, desires and practice!s until it was too late.
Y’all! We ARE known! Our needs, our wants, our desires! Ever actually asked AND believed?
Faith! What IS faith?
Whoa! You are not sure?
Let’s Hebews 11:1 it! Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hold up! We should have said “Let’s Hebrews 11 it!”
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.
By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithfulwho had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on Earth.
We tend to leave out the MOST significant faith of all:
In the Gospel of Luke, Mary says “yes” to angel Gabriel, sent by God! who asks her to bear God’s son.
And she does so in perfect freedom. As do we—in our own lives. God meets us in myriad ways, through nature, through prayer, especially through people “For Christ plays in the ten thousand places, lovely in eyes and limbs not His.”
If Israel had only listened! Do we?
Someday the world is going to lie in ruins, if it still is! Planets are aligned in our galaxy. Have you ever given thought of what would happen if the ‘tether’ that keeps them aligned is ‘lost’?
Gently stated “Collusion of GALACTIC proportion!” A planet, the solar system would cease to exist!
God has given adequate warnings of the desolation to come.
The poor survivors of the holocaust wandered aimlessly, looking for a bite of food.
Jeremiah sinks to an incredible low (depression I would say.)
The people had turned against him.
They told him to shut up or they would kill him.
After their pride came the fall! They wished they had listened.
It seems that even God has turned against Jeremiah – vs. 1-20.
Looking around, it was totally hopeless!
We have a lot to learn from this! HIS CURE FOR DEPRESSION when things are down LOOK UP.
When your fate appears sealed, sinking in the miry clay? In our day we know it as “quicksand” – a slow way to die fast! You look all around for something/anything to grab on to.
Last moments…you look UP!
🤔 At your lowest you look up?
Quick question: “Where DO you look at your high point?” Hard question. Really hard! Trick really!
Should you ‘look back’? 🤔 The Word says “Do not look back.”
For a fleeting moment, let us Old and New Testament that!
“Sistren/Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.”
Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
So how do we help those ‘behind/under’ us?
Proverbs 22; Proverbs 23; Proverbs 24; 2 Corinthians 8
Back to what HAS happened and we can quote Ecclesiastes 1:9-18 here! And this is so many other places!
What has happened before will happen again. What has been done before will be done again. There is nothing new in the whole world. “Look,” they say, “here is something new!” But no, it has all happened before, long before we were born. No one remembers what has happened in the past, and no one in days to come will remember what happens between now and then. I, the Philosopher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. I determined that I would examine and study all the things that are done in this world. God has laid a miserable fate upon us. I have seen everything done in this world, and I tell you, it is all useless. It is like chasing the wind. You can’t straighten out what is crooked; you can’t count things that aren’t there. I told myself, “I have become a great man, far wiser than anyone who ruled Jerusalem before me. I know what wisdom and knowledge really are.” I was determined to learn the difference between knowledge and foolishness, wisdom and madness. But I found out that I might as well be chasing the wind. The wiser you are, the more worries you have; the more you know, the more it hurts.
When the outlook is so bleak you can’t face it – try the up look.
“This I recall to mind, and I have hope.”
Depression is a ‘State’ of mind – move! Change State addresses! (Acually, for some living on state lines, easy! For many ‘travel’ is key.) No one said ‘Moving’ would be ‘easy’! Do it! Better things lie ahead. Staying where/when/how you are is being ‘stuck!’ Can’t move? Pray? Can’t pray? Have others pray with and for you! Where two or more are gathered in My name, I am there with them. Who said this, when?
Not EVERYTHING will be spoon-fed to you!
Be warned: Conditions can destroy you – most suicides are caused by depression.
It can hurt those around you. Have you ever noticed how depressed you feel after talking to a depressed person? 🤔
A new set of thoughts were placed by Jeremiah into his mind.
He ceased thinking about himself.
He started thinking about God.
Do we realise that thinking about yourself, your condition/circumstances can be depressing?
NB: Thinking about God is ALWAYS encouraging!
JEREMIAH’s NEW MIND SET.
“It is by The Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed.”
If God had given to us what we deserved, I wouldn’t even be here to see this mess.
It is only by God’s mercies that any of us are alive today.
Our lives are all in His hands.
He is under no obligation to sustain us.
NB NO obligation! You decide! IF for The LORD, you are in The Family! If not, your bad!
Some even bite the hand that is holding them!
“His compassions fail not.”
God never ceases Loving you, chil’ pulled! God IS Love! Can He cease being What and Who He is? Uhh 🤔 can YOU? Jus’ askin’!
In this share we learn how often mercy is associated with compassion.
Mercy stems from compassion.
“They are new every morning.”
“Great is Thy faithfulness.”
God was faithful to warn of what He would do.
God was faithful to do what He warned
“God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
But more – God is faithful to Love and show mercy.
