And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of The Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him.

Even as an earthly father who loves his children will chastise (discipline) them if he truly loves them and wants what is best for them, so also is our Heavenly Father. He does not condemn us like a judge in a courtroom, for there is no condemnation to those in Christ. His punishments of us are not legal, but parental. They are not required by “the rules,” but are done as needed to help us grow and learn his ways of holiness for our good and his glory.
And we pray:
Let me not resent Your discipline, O Father, for I know that if You discipline me, it is only because You Love me. Help me to want what You desire in my ALL, to desire the object of Your discipline, which is to teach me your Word and lead me in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake, Amen.
