Chosen!

And after these things Jesus – The Word of God, went forth and saw a publican, named Levi (also named Matthew – who wrote a gospel), sitting at the receipt of taxes: and Jesus said to him, Follow Me.

Jesus chose a despised publican (tax collector working for the Romans to tax his own people) to be among the ranks of his 12 disciples. Jesus made Himself a friend of publicans and sinners and welcomed all who would turn from sin and follow Him. With one simple command, “Follow me!,” Christ took Levi (Matthew) for His disciple. Have you felt the call?

We pray:

Lord Jesus, may I be as quick to leave all and follow You as was Levi of old. At your call, he rose and left all to follow You. He gave up a very profitable position and turned his back on his former sinful life. He never looked back. May we also value being true disciples of You more than all that the world may have to offer, Amen.
