These verses look at one of the most important questions in Christianity: if God will always forgive when asked, what is the incentive to not sin? Paul explains that Jesus died for us; we all know this is true. More importantly, we ALL died when Jesus died. God sent Jesus to Earth to die for us, almost as a representative for us. It was because of our actions that we need to be forgiven, and Jesus was sent here to be the sacrifice for our sins.
The Lord told Moses to say to the community of Israel: Offer a sacrifice to ask forgiveness when you sin by accidentally doing something I have told you not to do… Leviticus 4
Paul explains that he is compelled to honor Jesus’ life. Paul loved Jesus and realized the sacrifice that was made and in an effort to honor His sacrifice, he is compelled to lead a more godly life. How much better would the world be if we all felt the same way as Paul?
And we pray:
You died so that I could live, Lord Jesus. Thank you for all that you have done for me, knowing that I needed it in order to be saved. Dearest Lord in heaven, please let my love runneth over, and let it spill onto any people that come into contact with me, so that they too will feel the power of the Holy Spirit. Blessed God, my Abba Father, I am not worthy of your love. I am not worthy of the sacrifice that you made by sending your only begotten son to earth. I shall pray these things in honor of my love and service to you, O Lord. Amen.
