It is understandable why a lot of African Americans feel the way they do. The Tuskegee experiment is a key issue. We currently have the Covid virus worldwide reeking havoc. Understandably, medically speaking something needs to be done.
Long-standing systemic health and social inequities have put many people from racial and ethnic minority groups at increased risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19. The term “racial and ethnic minority groups” includes people of color with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. But some experiences are common to many people within these groups, and social determinants of health have historically prevented them from having fair opportunities for economic, physical, and emotional health.
I put this together secondary to a discussion on a related historical perspective: The Tuskegee ‘experiment’. A racially slanted ‘study’ or lack thereof even after treatment was available for the treatment of syphilis. Penicillin to be clear.
There are many sides to this story. We cannot hold minorities responsible for their lack of trust in the system that has a history of sidelining minority rights.
1. Are we ‘citizens’/equals (I almost laugh uncontollably at this assertion!) What exactly does the term ‘minority’ mean?
Minority: Minority —individuals who are of a race or ethnicity other than white (Caucasian).
So, how did ‘others’ adopt the term ‘non minority’?
And we look at the numbers:
We take a short stroll: Oprah Winfrey and company.
Here’s a look at the United States’ five black billionaires.
- Robert Smith: $5 billion.
- David Steward: $3.5 billion.
- Oprah Winfrey: $2.7 billion.
- Michael Jordan: $1.9 billion.
- Jay-Z: $1 billion.
Where is Tyler Perry? I said “A short walk.” And why are we grouped separately?
Why do we not look at achievements as individual; not race! We are stuck in a quagmire.
ALL things happen for a reason. I was reading and came across a disturbing piece: https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/09/us/african-american-scientists-vaccine-development-trnd/index.html
Why does it truly matter? Are brains aware of color/race? This was meant to be a short walk aside!
If we truly look at His-story. If we think back to the great flood in the days of Noah, there were different ‘families’ on the ark which explain the differences we experience today in terms of ‘race’. More importantly, we have read/heard or studied the attempt to build a tower into the heavens as one large extended ‘family’.
A “fairy tale” some may say, but we follow the story. Man as ONE had few limitations. God saw this and separated Man across the globe.
Questions arise! Answers:
Back to present. Has anything affected the world in a like manner?
Back to our beginning: race and following ‘advice.’
What are limitations of race?
I would be limited not discussing the challenges:
Can you blame anyone who refuses to accept the covid vaccine?
So, where are we?
