1 Corinthians 6:12-13 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.
Food should not master us. Drink should not master us. Our master is God alone. The choices we make should be made as victorious believers, living for God’s glory.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
We are stewards of our bodies, which are temples of the Spirit who lives in us as believers. As good stewards, we should be responsible and take care of it, as something that does not belong to us.
Maybe you are generally healthy and can get away with eating a pint of ice cream after the kids go to bed without putting on 3 pounds overnight. Does that decision demonstrate self control and good stewardship? Could there be repercussions for it later on?
Do you suffer from physical pain or constant exhaustion? Is it a temptation to give up and not do any physical activity because only a couple of minutes of it wears you out? It’s understandably discouraging, but with the help of a physician, physical therapy or a personal trainer, etc., you may be able to at least slow the progression if not make improvement. Your specific condition may require the supervision of a health professional.
