Vanity is very displeasing to God. When we are overly confident in our abilities, He has to remind of us Who He is. He is High and Holy. He is the High and Exalted One. He has to, in a sense, put us in our place, when we get “too big for our britches.” He prefers to dwell with the “contrite” and the “lowly in spirit.” Once again we see God prefer the humble over the arrogant. It should be a very powerful lesson to us in how we should behave.
And we pray:
Lord, I thank You for Who You are. I praise You. You are high and exalted. You are Holy and Mighty. Help me to have a lowly spirit so that You will dwell with me and prefer my company. Amen.
