‘There was none feeble among His tribes.’
Psalm 105:37 NKJV
When the Israelites were in the wilderness, they stayed amazingly free from illness and weakness: ‘He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among His tribes.’ Imagine two million people walking through miles and miles of desert with no proper healthcare, or only basic medical treatment at most; you’d expect some of them to be weakened, struggling, or dealing with illness of some kind. But every one of them was strong and healthy. One of the reasons is that they lived on a diet provided by God. At first, we might think this story doesn’t really apply to our lives now, but it shows that God cares about what we eat, and that He wants us to make good choices in all areas of our lives. That doesn’t mean we should feel guilty about eating a chocolate bar or having a takeaway sometimes, but we need to try to choose nourishing, healthy food when we can. When health problem run in our family, or our circumstances mean that we’re forced to eat less-than-ideal food, God understands. But when we have the choice, we need to show wisdom in choosing the fuel we’re putting into our bodies. When Israel entered the Promised Land, God told them, ‘If you worship The Lord your God, I will bless your bread and water’ (Exodus 23:25 NCV).
We might not think God’s interested in what we’re eating, but He cares about every part of our lives. So let’s involve Him in every decision we make, big or small, and turn every choice we make into an act of worship.
For every choice you make today, big or small, try checking in with God first. Treat each choice as an opportunity to worship Him.
