What is ‘evil’?

Christianity holds rather that evil is the result of the misuse of their free will by created beings and that the body, with its passions and impulses, is to be neither ignored nor despised but sanctified; in the Bible, the “flesh” that is spoken of disparagingly is not the human body but human nature in rebellion to The Will and direction of The Creator of ALL.

Christian hamartiology describes sin as an act of offense against God by despising His persons and Christian biblical law, and by injuring others. In Christian views it is an evil human act, which violates the rational nature of man as well as God’s nature and His eternal law.

Evil means something which is morally bad or wicked. It is the opposite of good. People may say that an action which hurts people or breaks certain rules such as the Ten Commandments is evil. A person or a group that does evil things may also be called evil.

Why does ‘evil‘ exist? Humans being granted morally significant free will and with the greater goods this freedom makes possible. Persons have morally significant free will if they are able to perform actions that are morally significant. … People in this world always perform morally good actions, but they deserve no credit for doing so. It is impossible for them to do wrong. So, when they do perform right actions, they should not be praised, rather they should be commended.
