Jesus taught us well…

And now, we pray in submission to The Will of our Creator, Who Created us for a cause/reason.

Throughout most of this chapter, James discusses the selfish arrogance that most people possess. This arrogance leads us to boast about what we are going to do in the future. The quaint saying, “Lord willing and the creek don’t rise” illustrates the way we should talk about our future. It is the same sentiment addressed in this passage. James admonishes us to say “if it is the Lord’s will” we will do “this or that.” It is a call to demonstrate that we are aware of our dependence on God. We should always remember that our next steps are based on God’s will and not on any foolish notion of our own grandeur.

And we pray:

Lord, help me to pray that Your will be done in my life. Instead of selfishly asking for this or that, I ask that if it is Your will, it will be done in my life. Amen.
