We are  more than conquerors through Him Who Loved us.

Romana 8:37 (NIV)

Today’s reading
Psalm 22

As you read this psalm, remember the gritty details of the crucifixion, recorded a thousand years before it happened: Jesus was thirsty, his hands and feet were pierced, his bones were not broken, and the soldiers gambled for his clothing. The prophetic description of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross is obvious.

Look at verse 1—Jesus says this very statement on the cross. He clearly knows this prophecy and speaks it as it comes to pass (Matthew 27:46). But Jesus’ declaration is not a sign of doubting the Father when he says, “Why have you abandoned me?” Those nearby who heard him would’ve immediately recognized that Jesus was quoting a familiar psalm. He was uttering words the Jews in the crowd would have known by heart. And during Jesus’ time, the psalms were titled by their first lines, not by the numbers we use today. His cry on the cross draws our attention to the entire psalm—not just the message in the first line. Read Psalm 22 to the end and see the promise it holds.

David probably didn’t know what his own deeply personal cry for help in this psalm was going to become. But it shows us that God not only hears our cries for help, but he can also use them. Jesus is not offended by our pleas, by our recognition of our weaknesses, or by our raw expression of fear or need. Instead, he takes our cries onto himself and expresses them to his Father.

Today’s devotion
The Source of Abundant Joy

My Utmost for His Highest

The things we try to avoid and fight against— tribulation, suffering, and persecution— are the very things that produce abundant joy in us. “We are more than conquerors through Him” “in all these things”; not in spite of them, but in the midst of them.

Today’s prayer
Dear Lord God, Abba Father, we are more than conquerors through You Who Loves us, unconditionally. We just need to remember and walk with belief and faith, that same power that was in Jesus, lives in us. So Abba Father help us overcome our unbelief! Give us eyes of faith! Continue to bless me and mine, enlarge our territory for Your will, lay Your hand upon us, keeping us from evil and causing pain. Amen
