Turn (and stand facing) The Creator, Amen.

Every once in a while, we have to be reminded of where we came from. We have to back to where we started. That is what Paul is doing in this passage. He is reminding the church of the gospel that he had originally taught to them, the one that caused them to believe. His reminder is designed to bring back to their collective memories the feeling of “first Love” that they had when they came to know Christ. Sometimes people who have been married to each other for a long time begin to take the miracle of their marriage for granted. They find themselves at odds with the person to whom they have pledged their life. Sometimes it is necessary for the couple to start dating each other again to remind themselves of why they fell in love in the first place. The same is true of our relationship to God. After years of being a Christian, our passion for God grows stale and we need to be reminded of why we fell in love with him in the first place.

And we pray:

Father, Help me to Love You like I Loved You when I first came to know You. Don’t let me take the miracle of my salvation for granted. If I come to a place where I have begun to forget my first Love, remind me of where I was when You found me. Amen.
