Isaiah 55:8-9
““For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says The Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the Earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
In this verse Paul exhorts his readers to give thanks in all circumstances. He adds that it is God’s will to do so. Regardless how difficult our circumstances may be, we can find reasons to thank God. We can be thankful that all things work together for our good if we belong to HIm (Romans 8:28). We can be thankful that God’s grace is sufficient to sustain us in every circumstance (2 Corinthians 12:9). We can be thankful that nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:37–39). We can be thankful that God even supports us spiritually when trials produce difficulty in our prayer life (Romans 8:26). Rough circumstances also prove the genuineness of our faith (1 Peter 1:6–7).
Paul previously wrote to “Rejoice always” (1 Thessalonians 5:16). Joy is not the same thing as happiness. In a similar way, Scripture notes the difference between giving thanks “for” our circumstances, as opposed to giving thanks “in” our circumstances. For example, a car wreck may not find us giving thanks for a twisted fender and smashed radiator, but we can give thanks that we have insurance and a God who is always present with us. We may not thank God for an illness, but we can be thankful for medicines and doctors. Persecution is not something we would be thankful for, but we can be thankful that God can use that hardship for our eternal benefit.
And we pray:
Father LORD, I come before You today with all my worries and my lack. You have Written my story, You see and know all things. Help me LORD to learn to give You praise and thanks in every situation that I find myself. Father, in my life LORD be glorified. Use me LORD, in my life Your will be done I pray 🙏🏾, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
We know the power of being grateful, but sometimes it’s hard to remember to give thanks. It can be easier to take what life (and God) gives you on a daily basis if you read Bible verses about thankfulness. We get so wrapped up in our lives — hardships, challenges, struggles and all — that it’s easy to get lost in a sea of doom if you’re in a negative place. Or, if you’re in a positive space, you might still forget to give thanks to God because you’re too busy enjoying life. But, it’s important to remember to be thankful for our health, well-being, gifts (material and not), and everything else in between.
For people of faith including Christians, positive blessings come from God. His love, presence, inspiration, and influence are the reasons we have what we have. Thessalonians 5:16-18
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
The Good News: God wants you to be happy, to pray to Him, and to always be thankful for all the blessings in your life.
2 Corinthians 4:15
“All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.”
The Good News: If more people are thankful to God, He will be even more glorious.
Colossians 3:15
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
The Good News: There are two traits all Christians should have: peace in their hearts and gratitude towards God.
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
The Good News: Rather than praying when you’re worried about a specific situation, make sure to pray constantly so that you’ll be blessed every day.
1 Chronicles 16:34
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
The Good News: God’s love is the only thing that will last forever.
Psalm 9:1
“I will give thanks to You, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds.”
The Good News: Always be thankful of the things you have and make sure that others know it’s all because of God.
Psalm 95:2-3
“Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.”
The Good News: The good things you have in life are all thanks to God. Make sure to thank and celebrate Him.
Psalm 69:30
“I will praise God’s Name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving.”
The Good News: Every time you thank Him for everything He’s done for you, you bring more glory to His Name.
2 Corinthians 2:14
“But thanks be to God, Who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere.”
The Good News: One of our missions in life is to spread The Word of God and help others see that there is glory in His Name.
Colossians 3:16-17
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from The Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in The Name of The Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God The Father through Him.”
The Good News: Always make sure to keep God’s Word in your heart, especially when you’re spreading His teachings to others.
Psalm 107:1
“Oh give thanks to The Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast Love endures forever!”
The Good News: God Loves you and for that, you should be thankful.
Ephesians 5:20
“Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The Good News: God is generous and He blesses all of His children equally. Thank Him for being in His good graces.
James 1:17
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
The Good News: Always remember that everything you have is because of God. Don’t turn to sin to get what you want.
2 Corinthians 9:15
“Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift!”
The Good News: God doesn’t provide material things. He gives Love, knowledge, hope, and faith.
Colossians 4:2
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”
The Good News: Prayer should not be rushed, but a process that’ll show your devotion to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
The Good News: No matter what, having gratitude in your heart at all times is what God has intended for you.
Colossians 2:6
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
The Good News: When you accept Christianity, you will become stronger and you’ll super grateful for it.
1 Timothy 4:4-5
“For everything God Created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by The Word of God and prayer.”
The Good News: All that God has given you should be appreciated. God won’t ever give you something you shouldn’t have.
1 Samuel 12:24
“But be sure to fear the Lord and sever him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.”
The Good News: Be grateful to God always because He does a lot for you. He’s there for you.
1 Chronicles 16:8
“Oh give thanks to The Lord; call upon His Name; make known His deeds among the peoples!”
The Good News: As you continue to show gratitude to God for all the things He gives you, don’t forget to spread The Word and let others know Who gave you these amazing gifts in your life.
Psalm 28:7
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him.”
The Good News: You should always trust that God will protect you, and be grateful for that. Doing so will fill your heart with positivity.
Acts 24:3
“In every way and everywhere we accept this with all gratitude.”
The Good News: Regardless of where you are in life and what else is happening to you, everything you’re given should be met with thankfulness.
Matthew 6:21
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
The Good News: Take note of the things you are happy to have. That’s where your heart is, and where your gratitude should be directed towards.
Corinthians 9:11
“You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”
The Good News: As you are given things, spread those gifts to others. Doing so shows gratitude to God and it will come back to you full circle.
Ruth 2:12
“May The Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done.”
The Good News: If you help people, you will be rewarded for your good deeds. Being thankful is a cycle that comes back around when you give.
Psalm 100:4-5
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His Name. For The LORD is good and His Love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.”
The Good News: Your gratitude will extend far beyond your life. When you give thanks, the generations after you will also benefit. It’s everlasting.
Revelation 4:9
“Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to Him Who sits on the throne and Who lives for ever and ever.”
The Good News: If we continue to be grateful for what God brings us, he’ll live on forever in our hearts and for future generations. Thanking him means his inspiration lives on.
Daniel 2:23
“To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, For You have given me wisdom and power; Even now You have made known to me what we requested of You, For You have made known to us the king’s matter.”
The Good News: When you give thanks to God, you gain wisdom and strength in return.
