And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited His people. Luke 7:16
Jesus had just raised a young man from the dead, “interrupting” and ending a funeral procession. The response of the people was to admit Jesus as a “Great Prophet” and to acknowledge that God had visited His people Israel. This brought glory to God, though merely admitting these facts about Jesus still falls short of saving faith.
Lord God, we know your Son was a Great Prophet and that in Him you visited your people Israel. But He is also a Savior from sin to all who repent and believe and a light to enlighten the Gentiles. Even Muslims and certain unbelievers admit Jesus Christ as a prophet, but we know Him also as Lord, God, and Savior. We thank you for your gift of eternal life found only in Him.
