Moses forewarned the nation Israel of forgetting the mighty hand of God that had brought them out of Egypt and into the promised land. He knew they would one day grow wealthy in the land and begin to think that their national blessings were simply the product of their own efforts. He knew they would fail to give thanks to God for their blessings and become filled with pride. The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body–whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free–and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
And we pray:
Take away, O Lord, any thought in us that we have achieved to personal or national greatness by the strength of our own arm. Show us that we are feeble and helpless apart from You, and that it is You Who have blessed us and not we who have blessed ourselves. Allow, lead, guide us to share The testimony of Your amazing grace, Amen.
