If there’s one thing we need to be doing more these days (and all days), it’s to pray without ceasing.
And I mean seriously pray without CEASING. ☺
Habit, however, makes it easier and quicker for us to move our thumbs up and down our phones or swipe left and right, than to put ourselves in the presence of God in prayer.
Do you agree? The good thing is we can also pray to make us smash that habit and build a new one. I promise it’s totally worth it!
The command to pray without ceasing is taken from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. In the Greek, verse 17 only has two words: adialeiptōs proseuchesthe or “Unceasingly pray” in English.

Unceasingly comes from the Greek word adialeíptōs, which means “properly, nothing left between, i.e. without any unnecessary interval (time-gap)”.
The apostle Paul gave the command in his letter to the church of Thessalonica after writing about the coming of the Lord. He urged them to rejoice always, pray without ceasing and in everything give thanks for this is God’s will.
Now, I will not expound on it any further and risk turning this blog into a sermon. ☺ But basically, if you’re a believer of Jesus Christ, you are commanded to pray without ceasing.
And if you do obey this command, prepare yourself to be awestruck! Why?
Here’s why:
1. Praying without ceasing pleases God.
The apostle Paul points out that God wills for us to talk to Him non-stop. ☺ So if we follow God’s will with the right heart, He is pleased.
2. Praying without ceasing glorifies God.
Every time God answers our prayer — whether it’s a yes, no, or wait — we praise Him and He is glorified!
3. Praying without ceasing allows you to experience God’s power moment by moment.
Nothing beats getting an answer for even the smallest prayer in the middle of the day.
For example, your friend announces that he needs a blood donor with a rare blood type for his father’s emergency surgery. You utter a word of prayer for the Lord to send help. Within a few minutes, God answers the prayer.
How would you feel? I bet you your heart would overflow with praise! ☺
4. Praying without ceasing strengthens your faith.
When we know we’ve been unceasingly praying for the impossible for years on end and God finally answers it, our faith and prayer life get a big boost.
This has happened to me numerous times. One great example is the salvation of many of my family members. ☺ Praise God!
5. Praying without ceasing blesses others.
If we pray without ceasing especially for others, it blesses them. When we pray with them and for them, it encourages them. It also strengthens our bond.
If we pray for people we don’t know, we’re sharing with them our lifeline to heaven. Whether they know it or not, we become one with them for a specific time of their life.
I wrote a line in my Prayer Journal to encourage me to keep praying, “Praying with fervency gives God glory and makes a huge difference in other people’s lives.” Every time I look at it, it rebukes me when I’m feeling lazy to pray.
6. Praying without ceasing gives you peace.

Part of Simplified Living is building a strong prayer life. If we have specific concerns, we don’t have to complicate things by worrying about them.
We only have to present our requests before God and He will give us peace. ☺ What kind of peace is it? It’s knowing that the God who made heaven and earth hears you and knows what’s best for you.
So chill. He’s got you! ☺
