We may sit one day and think on ‘life.’ Where/When did it all start? You have a birth date! When was Earth’s birth date? If curios, The Word describes the beginning of ‘Time.’ Before that???
Yes, it may have tickled your thoughts…
One reason people give for rejecting a young universe is that they think it somehow limits God. After all, what was He doing all that time before creation? This question reflects a basic misunderstanding of God and time.
God Is Separate from Both Time and the Universe
When I’m teaching children, I like to explain it this way. There was no “before” God created. There was not even “nothing”! There was God existing in eternity.
This is something humans, as finite created beings, can never really understand. That’s why the Bible makes it clear there is always a “faith” aspect to our understanding of God. Now, biblical faith is not against reason, but such things go beyond our understanding.
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
In Psalm 90:2 we read: “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
Because of my stand on a young universe, a man approached me and said, “But it makes no sense to believe in a young universe. After all, what was God doing all that time before He created?”

You know what phrase I hear too often from Christians about pursuing their life purpose and their God-given dreams?
“I Can’t.”
God has called you to ministry, but you ‘can’t.’
God has called you to business, but you ‘can’t.’
God has called you to the arts, but you ‘can’t.’
God has called you to something bigger than you, but you ‘can’t.’
Well beloved, in a word, hogwash! Whether you ‘can’t’ because YOU think you aren’t able, you don’t have the time, you don’t have the money, or you don’t have the know-how, again I say, hogwash!
What sort of God do you think He is? How small do you think He is? What kind of God gives you a purpose and a longing in your soul with no way to actually accomplish it? What kind of God will call you to something you can’t do, and then just watch you suffer for the duration of your life?
No. “I can’t,” is a lie from the pit of hell. It is a lie that keeps you from the abundant and meaningful life that Jesus came to give you. It is a lie that causes suffering, depression, anger, and hopelessness.
EVERYTHING that God has called you to, you CAN do! Now, I’m not saying you can do it in your own strength, but you can do what He’s called you to do through intimacy and union with Him. You CAN do it because, really, He’s the One who is going to do it.
Your job is to trust. Your job is to hear His instructions and obey them – no matter how far they stretch you. Your job is to get out of the boat. The actual ‘how’ a thing is to get done is really none of your business. You have no idea what divine appointments and favor God has for you. You have no idea what doors, that on your own you could never get to, He will open for you.
All you need to know is that He is faithful to finish what He starts. He has already prepared the way for you. All you need to remember is that if a giant can be killed with a slingshot, if a fish can swim around with money in its mouth, if water can be turned into wine, if storms can be calmed with a word, then surely all things are possible for Him. And that includes providing all that you need to do what He has called you to do.
