What would you do if you won the lottery?

Pray at all times (on EVERY occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).

First!

The scriptures teach, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7). When you turn to God, He promises to answer your prayers—but sometimes it can be hard to recognize His voice.

My advice would be the same for anybody, not just a “Christian.”

If you win the lottery do the following:

  • Tell no one.
  • If you live in a State that lets you stay anonymous, all the better. If you don’t find a reputable money manager, a lawyer and an accountant and set up an LLC. It may not make you completely anonymous, but it’s way better than being out in the open.
  • Just because taxes are taken out doesn’t mean that you are good. When it comes to millions, the lottery takes out only 25% in taxes. With a top tax rate of 37%, you’re on the hook for another 12%. If you live in a state with state taxes, you’re on the hook for that.
  • You haven’t told anybody yet? Good, keep it that way.
  • Set up a trust fund, because you are going to find a lot of people who want to part with you and your money and you may find this hard to believe, but quite a number of them will not be legit, but the good ones will have you believing they are. Setting up a trust, means that the con will have to go through your attorney and money manager and they’re way better at knowing who is and who isn’t legit.
  • Don’t think for one second that you are set for life. It’s easy to blow the money. Billionaires are billionaires because they have their money working for them. They live in modest houses and drive used cars. Get your basic needs met, but don’t buy a private plane.
  • Many lottery winners go bankrupt within a few years. Don’t be one of them. Make smart decisions about money so it can last a lifetime.
