Are you a leader or a follower?

The Bible encourages both leading and following, emphasizing that followership is essential for effective leadership. In the Bible, Jesus is both a leader and a follower, demonstrating that these roles are not mutually exclusive. Ultimately, a servant-hearted leader, who serves others, is a great leader.

Elaboration:

  • Followership is foundational: True believers are first and foremost followers of Christ. Effective leadership in the Bible is often described as servant leadership, prioritizing the needs of others and serving them.
  • Jesus as a model: Jesus, as the ultimate leader, also exemplified the importance of followership, demonstrating humility and submission to God’s will.
  • Interdependence: Leadership and followership are not opposing roles, but rather interdependent. A leader must be a good follower of God’s word, while a follower can also lead in their own sphere of influence.
  • Following God’s guidance: Followers should listen for God’s instructions and promptly obey, recognizing God’s voice through the Bible, prayer, and other channels.
  • Leading by example: Leaders should demonstrate good character, effective communication, and a passion for the cause they are leading.
  • Serving others: Leaders who prioritize serving others are more effective and humble.
  • Leadership in various spheres: Leadership is not limited to specific roles or positions, but can be demonstrated in various aspects of life.
