At times things seem to go all wrong. WHY? Are you wrong? Did you go about it the wrong way? Frustration! Pulling out your hair (figuratively.) Nothing makes sense! Or does It?
Mistakes at these times are made obvious. “Could I have done it different?”
“WHY me?”
You may ask “Am I wrong? Crazy?, Did I step wrong?”
A simple answer…Yes!
So much can be found in The Word. Answers! We have pointed out that the world has existed for millions of years. Do you think no one else has been in your situation?
We rub shoulders every day with people who are desperate, hurting and lonely. We may not even be aware of the dark road they travel. Sometimes we notice, but often we don’t. Maybe we’re too busy, preoccupied, or overwhelmed ourselves. To be honest, many days, we might be those people, the desperate, the hurting, the lonely.
Just needing someone to notice.
To slow down.
To take time.
To care.
Though the Bible doesn’t use the word “depression” except in a few translations and verses, it’s often referenced by other similar words, such as “downcast,” “brokenhearted,” “troubled,” “miserable,” “despairing,” and “mourning,” among others. Throughout the Word, there are a number of stories about godly, influential men and women of faith who struggled and battled through dark times of hopelessness and depression. Many of us may find ourselves struggling there today.
There are so many examples in God’s story (His-story) reminding us we are not alone! Let us steer clear for a second of Biblical teaching. Are you the first to experience this ‘difficulty?’ To be honest it more than likely has occurred before: Parents? Siblings? A loved one? Colleagues? Bills? A job? What do you do?
If I say “pray”, I am sure I would hear “how?” Ok, we have not done a lot of praying.
Father LORD, in all things I am asked to give You thanks. Thank You for my pain, it belies words. LORD, I cry out to You in faith and need. Father, I am in need. LORD I need Your Love, Your care, Your guidance. I have NOTHING without You. I have NOTHING but depression, frustration, pain, want and need. Fill me with Your Spirit, cover me with Your Love. Father, I need You. Words fail me, tears take over in me and my frustration speaks. BFather, hear me as I cry before You. You brought people back to life from the dead: Lazarus and Jesus, The Bible lists TEN separate occasions when You, Father, brought people back to life. I am asking for, and need, Your hand in and on my life, in Jesus’ name, Amen!!!
To go over these, let us quickly look at His-story, which is His-Word!
The first resurrection listed in Scripture is where Elijah, the prophet, raised a widow’s son from the dead. Elijah was staying in the person’s home when her son perished. After he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the Eternal each time, something wonderful happened!
“And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah, and the life of the child came into him again, and he lived.” 1 Kings 17:22
The second dead person brought back to life was the son of a Shunammite woman whom the prophet Elisha raised up. After doing something similiar to his mentor Elijah (he put his body in contact with the person who was dead), the young man became warm again and woke up. 2 Kings 4:32, 34, 36
Elisha was also involved in raising the third person brought back from the grave when his bones were used to cause life to enter again into a man. Sometime after Elisha was buried in a cave all that was left were his bones. Then a group of men entered the cave to take care of the body of another dead person. Unable to give the person a proper burial, they threw his body into the cave. When the body touched the dried bones of Elisha it came back to life. 2 Kings 13:20 – 21
The fourth resurrection occurs when Jesus brings back to life the only son of a widowed woman from Nain. Luke 7:11 – 18.
At a later time he performs the Bible’s fifth resurrection when he causes life to once again enter the young daughter of Jarius (he was a ruler in the synagogue) Mark 5:35 – 38, Luke 8:49 – 52, Matthew 9:23 – 26
And they were all weeping and bewailing her. But He said, “Do not weep. She is not dead, but is sleeping.” . . . . But after putting everyone outside, He took hold of her hand and called out, saying, “Child, arise.” Luke 8:52, 54
The sixth person brought back to life was Jesus’ well-known resurrection of his friend Lazarus (which we have, shared in our prayer above) John 11.
The seventh Biblical resurrection was actually a large group of saints who were made to come out of their graves immediately AFTER Jesus was given his spirit life back. Matthew 27:52 – 53.
In Joppa, Peter resurrects an eighth person, a generous church woman named Tabitha. Acts 9:36 – 41
In Troas, the apostle Paul raises from the dead a young man named Eutychus who fell from a window. Acts 20:7 – 12.
The tenth and last known person in the Bible raised back to life was the Apostle Paul himself after being stoned by an unruly mob in Lystra. Acts 14:19 – 20
No one said it would be without pain or trials (plural) but stay strong! https://www.biblestudytools.com/topical-verses/strength-bible-verses/
We have a destination, do we want ANYTHING to keep us from getting there? I ask because few know how awesome it is there. Practically no one we know has been ‘there.’
“Where?” you may ask. Heaven! It is a place that once you go, everything falls limp. But you have a reason for your birth. Find it, cherish it, live it. On days when it feels like no tomorrow, the knowledge of our tomorrow keeps us moving forward.
You cannot stand still or stop moving! It is not as we have been directed.
