Wisdom: Pray and Receive

The Bible as we have shared is a book of knowledge, or His-story.

So many times we refer to His-story. Is God bored?  I say that in Respect.

A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever.

The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises.

The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns.

All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again.

All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.

Is there a thing of which it is said,

“See, this is new”?

It has been already in the ages before us.

There is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of later things yet to be among those who come after.

For a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day. We have shared that ‘time’ in Heaven (The Spiritual) does not exist.

2 Peter 3:8 indicates that the days of creation might not be literal, but thousands of years long!

2 Peter 3:8–9 reads:  ‘But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.’

The first thing to note that the context has nothing to do with the days of creation. Also, it is not defining a day because it doesn’t say ‘a day is a thousand years.’

The correct understanding is derived from the context—the Apostle Peter’s readers should not lose heart because God seems slow at fulfilling His promises because He is patient, and also because He is not bound by time as we are.

The text says ‘one day is like [or as] a thousand years’—the word ‘like’ (or ‘as’) shows that it is a figure of speech, called a simile, to teach that God is outside of time (because He is the Creator of time itself). In fact, the figure of speech is so effective in its intended aim precisely because the day is literal and contrasts so vividly with 1000 years.  To the eternal Creator of time, a short period of time and a long period of time may as well be the same.

There is nothing new under the sun. We are aware of history, in most cases we refute and pray it does not happen again, but all that is has been before. We stand in a place that has been stood in before.

In the human race, is there a single thing that has not occurred? Yes, there are ‘new’ developments, however, these developments pertain to an existing existence.

We are blessed! Once there existed fuel, but none knew of its use or existence. We develop ways to utilize what God placed here. We have knowledge, but few have wisdom, if we take a quick glance back at history.

The greatest story in the Bible of someone who sought after the knowledge and wisdom of God and actually received it was King Solomon in the Old Testament. What happened to this man was just about beyond belief.

When Solomon became King of Israel, he knew he did not have the knowledge and wisdom to properly rule his people. So what did he do? He went directly to God the Father and asked Him for His knowledge and wisdom to rule the people.

He admitted his weakness in this area and was not afraid to press in and start asking God for His knowledge.

So what did God do when King Solomon asked Him for His knowledge to help rule his people? God did not meet him halfway – He met him all the way!

  1. Great post and commentary on an important and underutilized scripture about all our trials and tribulations are not new and examples to prove this are all throughout The Word!! Just as important was your point that we have not because we ask not. Knock and the door shall be opened. Ask and you shall receive. It is truly all about our relationship with Him. Amen 🙏🏾
