Bible time 🤔
The son of Isaac and Rebecca, the grandson of Abraham, Sarah and Bethuel, the nephew of Ishmael, and the younger twin brother of Esau?
This individual had twelve sons and at least one daughter, by two wives, Leah and Rachel, and by their handmaidens Bilhah and Zilpah.
Must be getting pretty warm! Most would have blurted out the answer.
But why is this individual important? He ‘took’ something that was not his!
Amazingly, we are born with purpose. We at times may seek to avoid, but we are led where we are meant to be!
Let us skip forward to the New Testament; there are so many individuals called who were essentially of no importance yet they were chosen and used! Again, these were – the simple!
Paul supported the harassment of believers!
Acts 9 tells the story as a third-person narrative: As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
What did he become?
He was known! Before his birth!
We at times may feel inadequate, but to His Essence we are Loved, words cannot express how much!
Back to our quiz… What did this individual wrestle with? For how long?
Same individual prior to this had a dream. What did they see?
To make it clear this individual dreamt:
a dream in which this individual saw a stairway resting on the Earth, with its top reaching to Heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
Again, who is it?
As we started discussing, things were done at the start that laid a shallow foundation.
God is faithful to keep His promises, even when people fail!
Our character that we all know now is Jacob, who was renamed Isreal after his tussle with that “Being” who touched him afterward and threw his hip out of socket! This could have been done while they wrestled.
Again, we are chosen for a reason.
Jacob’s twelve sons, named in Genesis, were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan,Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun,Joseph, and Benjamin. His only daughtermentioned in Genesis is Dinah. The twelve sons became the progenitors of the “Tribes of Israel”.
And we pray:
Lord, You are my God. I will honor You. I will praise Your name. You have been perfectly faithful. You have done wonderful things. You had planned them long ago, Anen
