God has made everything beautiful in its time. Jehovah Jireh has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
‘Life’ has a beginning and an end! God has NO beginning and NO end! This does not need to be said “Amen” to! It shall not come to be – IT IS!
God has told The Story of ‘Time’ before ‘time’. Without father, without mother and without descent, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God, he abideth a priest continually.
‘Life’ started way after the big bang! The Big Bounce theory was once thought impossible. But two physicists have just resurrected it. The big bang is how astronomers explain the way the universe began. It is the idea that the universe began as just a single point, then expanded and stretched to grow as large as it is right now (and it could still be stretching).
“He’s just really old,” says Anna, age 11.
The prophet Daniel referred to God as the ancient of days, but you won’t find any birthday parties for God in the Bible. Kevin, 10, says it’s not age but form: “God is kinda like a circle, except he has power.”
“It is very hard to understand how God can have no beginning and no end,” says Marci, 9. “But here’s the trick: God is everlasting. He can keep on making the days and live through every one of them. He can never die.”
No tricks necessary, says Sarah, 11: “He is the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. He has been, and He always will be.”
It’s difficult for finite creatures to imagine life free from the limitations of time and space. It’s a bit like fish in the ocean trying to understand the lives of land creatures. Because we’re confined to time and space, we tend to impose those limitations upon God.
Try imagining a realm outside time and space, and you may come to the same conclusion as Tyler, 11: “Our brains aren’t designed to think that greatly.” Furthermore, adds Kyle, 12, “My brain cannot comprehend God’s majesty.”
I nominate Tyler and Kyle for the Nobel Prize for Humility. I agree that God’s majesty is too great to totally comprehend, but let’s look at two ways in which we can reason our way from finite creation to an infinite, intelligent God.
And we search definitions of eternity
Is life a story? Who tells it?
God – Timeless! Has told The story of ‘time’! Before ‘Time’? After ‘Time’?
If we study The Word everything has a period! The Bible is The Word of God, once spoken Word’s never go ‘back’. “Forward ever, backwards never!‘
Eternity. Can we understand it?
And we pray:
Lord, teach me how to pray with understanding. Teach me I pray, how to pray into Your will, to pray in spirit and truth, to pray as You would have me pray.
Lord, I ask that as I come across various difficulties that people are facing that I hear with Your ears, see with Your eyes and understand with Your heart so that I may speak and pray into the situation as You would have me pray. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
Gracious God, our heavenly Father, sometimes we reach out for You, wishing we could touch You, see You, or in some other way find some physical evidence that You are near and that you are concerned.
Forgive us our doubting and lift us, please, to higher levels of faith and understanding.
We do not ask that You change in any way whatsoever. We humbly pray that You will change us until our spirits shall be more like Yours.
Open The Understanding Of My Mind
O God, I am unworthy of the least of Thy favors. I freely acknowledge my need for understanding. I pray for Thy favor to rest upon my life, but know it cannot unless I so live that You can bless me with Thy Presence.
Help me, O God, guide me, strengthen me, open my understanding of Thy mind, will, and way. In return, I promise to serve Thee more faithfully and effectively.
Do Thou help me, for Jesus’ sake,
We end with this:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Lord Jesus to be my Saviour and for dying for me on the cross and paying the price for my sins. Thank You for giving us the Word of God that so beautifully opens up Your plan of redemption for mankind, and thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to live in me and to lead and guide me into all truth.
I pray Lord, that You would give me a deeper understanding of Your Word, Your plan for Israel and Your plan for the Church. I pray that as I read and study the scriptures, that my heart would be flooded with Your light, so that I can understand all that You would teach me. I pray that my understanding would cause me to live in a way that is honouring to You, and that I would draw closer to You with every passing day.
Father, I pray that You would open the eyes of my heart as I read, study and meditate on Your Word, so that I may see You more clearly and love you more dearly. In Jesus’ name I pray,
