God created a near-endless variety of creatures to inhabit the land, sea, and air and gave them remarkable abilities. But only man was created in the image and likeness of God. Adam and Eve were the climax of the 6-‘day’ creation week and were put over all the other creatures as a kind of “vice regent” under God. This image of God in man included basic faculties of the sould, as intellect, emotion, and will; but its chief glory was holiness, which was lost when man fell into sin.
And we pray:
O Creator God, You created us in Your Image, capable of having fellowship with You. You made our first parents upright, but they rebelled against You and brought death on us all. We were born in the likeness of fallen Adam, but You have called us be made again into the likeness of Your Word – Jesus. Give us a vision of Christ to which we can aspire, and change us by Your grace from glory to glory, Amen.
