Over and over in the Bible, we are reminded of the importance of honoring our parents. Here the admonition is specific to obedience and instruction. We are to obey and learn from our parents. God values the family unit and the role of the parent is paramount to God’s plan. When we honor our parents, we please God.
And we pray:
Father, I thank You for my parents. For the knowledge, wisdom, and care they have given me. Bring to my memory the lessons they have taught me and help me to honor them in all that I do. Amen.
