God is our refuge, shield, and hope. All these descriptions point to a simple conclusion: With God we can be safe. The irony in that is that God chooses to make us feel safe in His presence, but in reality, God is anything but safe. God is our king and all powerful. We should never forget that or not be in awe of Him. God is not safe, but He chooses to be accessible and personal for us. That is God is also good. So, God is safe because He chooses to be good to us. In him, our fears, insecurities, and anxieties get swallowed up by the safety of his loving refuge, his very presence is a shield against any harm, and His promises are a living hope that comforts us now. It is safe to go to Him with anything. He won’t turn you away. He doesn’t withhold love like people do. And He won’t give up on us, even if we have on ourselves. Our God is not safe, but He chooses to be for us because He is good.
