Amen, Yes LORD, YES!!! HALLELUJAH!!!

The Bible offers many verses that may be relevant to how you’re feeling, including verses about emotions, contentment, and gratitude:

  • Matthew 11:28-30: Jesus invites people to bring their feelings to Him, and says He can handle everything and provide rest.
  • Proverbs 31 Ministries: People may feel discontentment from time to time, but they can choose to be content with the life God has given them.
  • Psalm 27:13: This verse can provide comfort when someone feels behind, saying, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living”.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:18: Practicing gratitude can help people feel less like they’re missing out.
  • Philippians 4:6 & 19: People should pray to God about their problems and needs, and thank Him for His interest in them.
  • Ecclesiastes 3: Everything has a season, and people can draw near to God during times of wandering.
  • Joshua 1:9: The Lord counsels people to be strong and courageous, even in the midst of hardship.
  • Romans 8:18: The pain people feel can’t compare to the joy that’s coming.
  • Isaiah 41:10: God says He is with people, and will strengthen and help them.

If you’re feeling “behind” today, here are four ways I’ve found encouragement to combat those lies:

Pray with honesty. We can still be honest about what we long for even when we learn to enjoy what we have now. Prayer has the power to change things, so don’t stop asking and believing for God to move. (1 Peter 5:7)

Put down the social media. When we stop looking at what everyone else has or what they are doing, we are better able to love the life that’s right in front of us. (James 3:16)

Practice gratitude. Slowing down long enough to appreciate the gifts God has already given makes us feel less like we are missing out on something. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Change your perspective. There are things in my life today that I used to pray for, and that perspective changes how I live. There are also things in my life that other people are praying for. (Hebrews 12:2)

Here are some Bible verses that may be relevant to how you might be feeling:

  • Psalm 103:13-14: “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust”. This verse may help you consider how God feels about your feelings and whether you feel like he is judging them.
  • Psalm 139: This verse may help you feel that God sees you, knows everything about you, and loves you perfectly. You can invite God to show you his perspective on a moment when you feel unseen or unwitnessed.
  • Romans 8:18: “The pain that you’ve been feeling, can’t compare to the joy that’s coming”.
  • John 16:33: This verse summarizes the message that believers should remain faithful during hardship and persecution, knowing that it is part of God’s will and knowledge. Believers should feel a sense of peace rather than reacting with doubt or panic.

Other things you can try include:

  • Practicing gratitude: Slowing down to appreciate the gifts God has already given can help you feel less like you are missing out.
  • Changing your perspective: Consider how things in your life that you used to pray for have changed your perspective. You can also look back at evidence of God’s faithfulness in the past to have confidence that he is still faithful now.
  • Asking God to help you see your emotions: You can reflect on why you might feel the way you do and ask God to help you see your emotions as He does.
