Waiting on the LORD in prayer and thanksgiving, Amen.

The number 40 appears in the Bible over 150 times and is significant for a number of reasons, including:
A complete period of time
The number 40 is used to denote a complete period of time that transitions to another, rather than saying “a few days” or “a few decades”. For example, the Israelites took 40 years to travel to the promised land, even though they could have done so in 11 days.

A time of transition
The number 40 can signify a change from one great task to another, or a time of preparation or transformation. For example, Jesus spent 40 days in the desert.

A time of trials
The number 40 can also represent times of trouble and hardship. For example, the Israelites suffered for their sins for 40 years, one year for each of the 40 days they explored the land.

A time of judgment
In Christianity, the 40 days after death are seen as a period of judgment.

Here are some examples of the number 40 in the Bible:
The Great Flood: God sent rain for 40 days and 40 nights to keep Noah and his family alive.

David and Goliath: Goliath taunted the Israelites for 40 days.

The prophet Elijah: Elijah walked 40 days and 40 nights to arrive at mount Horeb.

Jonah: Jonah warned Nineveh that “Forty days more, and Nineveh shall be overthrown”.
