To be Chosen of the LORD!

There are rules set in stone for service of the LORD! Yes! Saul was chosen by God! Yet, he stepped away! We serve a God of Love.

I was meditating on the Word today after a period of thought on the life and death of Saul, the first king of Israel. Prior to this God spoke through prophets. Starting from Moses, to Joshua etc…

It was then shown me that Saul knew he was going to meet his doom and by God’s AWESOME grace, had a chance to prepare!

According to the Bible, Saul consulted with a “medium” known as the Witch of Endor, who told him he would perish the next day; this is found in the story of 1 Samuel 28, where she summoned the spirit of the prophet Samuel to deliver this ominous message to Saul.

Key points about the story:

  • Saul’s desperation: Saul sought out the Witch of Endor because he was facing a significant threat from the Philistines and was desperate for information.
  • The prophecy: The spirit of Samuel revealed to Saul that he and his sons would die in battle the following day.
  • Significance: This event is considered a pivotal moment in the narrative of king Saul, highlighting his disobedience towards God by consulting a forbidden practice.

Key points about Saul’s death:

  • Facing defeat: Saul was in a desperate situation, surrounded by enemies, and knew his army was losing heavily against the Philistines.
  • No prophecy: The Bible does not record any specific prophecy or divine revelation telling Saul the exact day he would die.
  • Suicide by sword: When he saw his defeat was imminent, Saul asked his armorbearer to kill him, but when the armorbearer refused, Saul fell on his own sword, taking his own life.

It is important to note that God Knows all things! Yes, even if Saul did not commit suicide by falling on his sword, he most likely would have been killed by the Philistines.

Yes, in most religious traditions, “God knows all things” means that God is considered to be omniscient, which signifies that he has perfect knowledge of everything, including the past, present, and future, as well as all thoughts and actions of every individual; essentially, there is nothing God does not know.

Key points about this concept:

  • Religious term: “Omniscient” is the word used to describe this attribute of God.
  • Biblical reference: Many verses in the Bible support this idea, like Psalm 139 which states that God knows our thoughts and actions intimately.
  • Interpretation: This concept can provide comfort to believers, knowing that God is fully aware of their circumstances and struggles.

We should note, that well before this God had already chosen David!

After Samuel anointed David as king, David became the second king of Israel and built a small empire. He conquered Jerusalem, defeated the Philistines, and made Israel’s political and religious center.

Explanation

  • The prophet Samuel anointed David as king in secret at God’s direction.
  • David was anointed as king three times.
  • The anointing of David is described in 1 Samuel 16:1–13.
  • The anointing of David evokes the idea of God’s elected king and shepherd.
  • The anointing of David also presages Christ as the sacrificial lamb.
  • David’s anointing as king marks the transition from Saul to David.
  • David’s anointing as king shows that God uses people that no one would expect to move His mission forward.

You can learn more about David’s anointing as king in these videos: “David: The Anointed, “Young David Anointed King, and “David Anointed King.

David was anointed three times.

1 Samuel 16:13

2 Samuel 2:4

2 Samuel 5:3

He was anointed privately before he went public. He was anointed to serve before he led. He was anointed to wait.

We can biblically substantiate the fact that we receive an anointing for each of our respective seasons.

We are anointed to serve before we are anointed to lead. We are anointed to wait before we occupy the promise. But it doesn’t finish there.

David was subsequently anointed king over Judah and then King over Israel. Judah was a portion of the promise, Israel was the fullness.

We are anointed to manage a portion in order to demonstrate that we can be good stewards with integrity.

Once we show God that we can be faithful with what He places in our hands, then He releases the greater portion. in the Name of Jesus, I pray that the Holy Spirit, Who is the anointing, will strengthen, equip, prepare, prune, and preserve you as you step into the greatest season of your life. Amen.
