Jesus boiled what’s most important down to two things:
1) Love God
2) Love people.

In that order. Our top priority should always be giving our best resources to God and then to people.
Matthew 22:37 means to Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the greatest commandment according to Jesus. It emphasizes that Loving God should be a total, all-encompassing devotion that involves every aspect of a person’s being.
Here’s a breakdown of the components:
- Heart: This refers to one’s emotions, affections, and desires.
- Soul: This encompasses one’s entire being, including their will and life force.
- Mind: This signifies one’s intellect, thoughts, and understanding.
To Love God with all these aspects means to make God the center of everything, to align one’s thoughts, desires, and actions with His will. It’s a daily choice to prioritize God and to seek to know Him more deeply.
This verse is closely linked to the second greatest commandment, which is to love your neighbor as yourself, as both are seen as encompassing the entirety of God’s law and the prophets.
