The Christian prayer phrase used to ask for spiritual protection against perceived negative influences, such as demonic forces, curses, or hindering spirits. It is an expression of faith based on biblical concepts of “binding and loosing,” which some believers interpret as the authority given by Jesus to counteract evil and to claim victory over sin and forces that work against God’s will.
Spiritual warfare: In this context, “binding” refers to preventing negative spiritual forces from having power or influence, while “loosing” refers to releasing positive influences, such as God’s peace, provision, or the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 16:19 and Matthew 18:18, where Jesus grants this authority to Peter and the apostles, respectively. This authority refers to the power to declare certain things permissible or forbidden, rooted in the first-century rabbinic tradition, and is applied to matters of church discipline, doctrine, and resolving conflicts.

Key Bible verses

Matthew 16:19: “I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven.” (NIV)
Matthew 18:18: “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven.” (NIV)

This phrase is also linked to the parable of “binding the strongman” (Matthew 12:29), where Jesus explains that one must first bind the strong man to enter his house and take his possessions.

Applications: This can be applied in prayer to various situations, including personal struggles, the protection of family, community issues, and spiritual opposition.

To speak to difficulties in Jesus’ name, you can pray by acknowledging God’s strength, asking for His peace and wisdom, and rebuking the hardship as if it is not there. This involves directly addressing the problem with faith, trusting that God’s power is available to help you overcome it.
What to say in prayer
Acknowledge God’s strength and presence: Remind yourself that God is your refuge and strength. You can say something like, “Lord, You are my strength in times of weakness and my refuge in trouble”.

Ask for peace and wisdom: Pray for God to replace your anxiety with peace and your worry with hope. You can also ask for wisdom on how to navigate your difficulties.
Rebuke the problem: Use faith to speak to your difficulties as if they are already overcome. For example, you can say, “I rebuke every storm raging in my life. Peace be still in Jesus’ name!” or “I declare that I am not defeated; I am victorious”.
Trust in God’s power: Believe that through faith, you can overcome challenges and that there is power in Jesus’ name to bring about change. You can pray, “In Jesus’ name, I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper”.
Take your difficulties to God: You can present all of your anxieties and worries to God, trusting that He can handle them.
Remember that God is with you: You can be reminded that God is always with you and will never leave you or forsake you.

God Is Fixing That Situation You Are Worried About. Claim It In Jesus Name. Amen.

Father LORD, we claim victory in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
