Where are YOUR treasures?

Build up your riches in Heaven where there is  no rust/roaches/time!

Building up riches in Heaven, based on Matthew 6:19-21, involves focusing on eternal value rather than temporary earthly possessions that are destroyed by rust, decay, or theft. Treasures in heaven are built through actions like faithful service, loving others, and secret prayer. This practice ensures your heart is centered on God and provides lasting rewards.

Key Aspects of Storing Treasures in Heaven:

  • Eternal Perspective: Earthly wealth is temporary (“fool’s gold”) and vulnerable to decay (moth and rust).
  • Heart Alignment: Jesus taught that where your treasure is, your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).
  • Actionable Ways:
    • Serving God: Acts of service that prioritize spiritual growth over material hoarding.
    • Loving Enemies: Practicing love as described in Matthew 5:43-48.
    • Secret Devotion: Praying and giving in secret rather than for public recognition (Matthew 6:5-6).
    • Endurance: Faithfully enduring trials.
  • Lasting Security: Treasures in heaven are secure and cannot be stolen or destroyed.

By focusing on these, one invests in a legacy that transcends time and material decay.

Building up wealth in heaven, as taught in Matthew 6:19-21, involves investing in eternal, spiritual endeavors rather than accumulating temporary earthly possessions that are vulnerable to destruction and theft. It signifies focusing on God’s kingdom, acting with generosity, and living a life that glorifies God through actions, ultimately securing everlasting, secure rewards.

Key Methods to Build Heavenly Wealth

  • Giving Generously: Sharing resources with the poor, supporting the church, and contributing to ministries.
  • Obeying God and His Word: Living according to scripture and allowing it to guide life’s decisions.
  • Serving Others: Serving God and humanity, which acts as building materials for eternal life.
  • Living for God’s Glory: Prioritizing God’s kingdom above personal, worldly success.
  • Enduring Persecution: Remaining faithful and loving enemies, which is considered a form of spiritual investment.
  • Praying in Secret: Developing a personal, humble relationship with God rather than seeking recognition.

Why Store Treasures in Heaven?

  • Security: Heavenly treasures are indestructible and immune to theft.
  • Eternal Value: Earthly wealth is temporary, while heavenly investments hold value forever.
  • Focus of the Heart: Placing wealth in heaven aligns one’s heart, desires, and affection with God.

1 Timothy 6:7-8 (NIV) states: “For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that“. These verses emphasize that earthly possessions are temporary, encouraging a life of contentment rather than a pursuit of wealth.

Key Insights:

  • Temporal Nature of Wealth: Humans enter and leave the world without material possessions, making the accumulation of wealth ultimately temporary.
  • Contentment vs. Greed: True “gain” is found in godliness paired with contentment, not in material accumulation.
  • Basic Needs: Contentment is framed around having basic necessities—specifically food and covering/clothing—rather than luxury.

This passage directly follows 1 Timothy 6:6, which highlights that “godliness with contentment is great gain”.
