Walk in the will of God…

Biblical teaching on human character emphasizes a transition from a naturally sinful state to a godly character shaped by the Holy Spirit. Humans, created in God’s image, are marred by sin (Romans 3:23) but called to develop integrity, love, and righteousness through sanctification. Godly character is defined by actions that reflect Jesus, developed through trials and faith.

Key aspects of biblical teaching on character include:

  • The Fallen State: Humanity is innately inclined toward sin, stemming from Adam (Romans 5:12) and cannot achieve true goodness without divine assistance.
  • Heart Over Appearance: God prioritizes the inner person—purity of heart, honesty, and integrity—over mere outward appearance or superficial “charm”.
  • Key Character Traits: Scripture emphasizes integrity, humility, and love, urging believers to be blameless, not rebellious, and to serve others.
  • Transformation Process: Godly character is cultivated, often through trials, by renewing the mind (Romans 12:1-2) rather than conforming to worldly patterns.
  • Fruit of the Spirit: True character is the “fruit” produced by the Holy Spirit, including love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
  • Community Importance: Developing godly character requires interaction with others for accountability, encouragement, and the cultivation of love.

The Bible presents character as the enduring substance of a person, distinct from personality, which is often a superficial social image.

Biblical teaching suggests men have a fixed purpose and inherent nature designed by God—characterized by strength, responsibility, and stewardship—but also a fallen nature inherited from Adam. True, godly manhood involves harnessing this nature to serve, protect, provide, and lead, rather than simply acting on selfish impulses.

Key aspects of biblical manhood include:

  • Divine Design: Men are created in God’s image, intended to work and steward responsibility.
  • Servant Leadership: Biblical masculinity is not defined by dominance or strength, but by sacrifice and prioritizing others.
  • Responsibility & Action: Men are called to be protectors, providers, and leaders of their households.
  • Moral Courage: The Bible calls men to be vigilant, firm in faith, and courageous.
  • A “New Man” in Christ: While man is naturally inclined to be flawed, believers are called to put away sinful tendencies and become a “new man” through spiritual rebirth.

Biblical Masculinity vs. “Just Being a Man”
The phrase “Man will always be Man” is often used to excuse sinful behavior. However, the Bible teaches that while the tendency to fall short exists, men are called to higher standards through faith.

Key Verses on Manhood

  • 1 Corinthians 16:13-14: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love”.
  • Micah 6:8: Focuses on practicing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly.
  • Ephesians 5:23: Mentions the man as the head of the household.

Biblical manhood is not about being perfect, but about being obedient and relying on grace to overcome the sinful, earthly nature.

THE TIMELESS MIRROR.

Reflection: Man is always Man… and God is always God!

If a servant of God who was called to seek for the lost souls could decline the task when and where most needed, let no man boast of his integrity outside the cover of divine grace –

Jonah’s response when sent by God to Nineveh displayed human depravity at its ground/lowest level! Jonah aimed to run from The Presence of God, rather than preaching to save the Ninevites; but was ‘caught’ by a God-sent whale that swallowed him to discipline him. Amazing!

By our fallen nature, everyone carries certain worthless idols that we worshiped differently. Jonah identified his own idols in the belly of that fish – who is better than Jonah today? None!

The truth? Very often, we ignorantly forsake God’s mercy to incur His wrath by turning against His will; notably, every disobedient act lands us in certain ‘belly of fish,’ we experience hardship/troubled/loss out of God’s Love to correct us… let us learn!

Shalom!🙌🙏🔥
