Have you ever been camping?

‘Life’ is camping on our journey Home. So, “Yes”, I am camping now!

  • Identity as “Strangers/Exiles”: Believers are reminded that this world is not their ultimate home, encouraging a mindset that prioritizes heaven over worldly conformity.
  • Battle Against Sinful Desires: The passage warns that “fleshly lusts” or “passions of the flesh” are not passive, but actively “wage war” against the soul.
  • Holiness in Action: It is a call to maintain godly conduct and good works, particularly for the purpose of silencing accusations from non-believers and shining as a witness, as described in 1 Peter 2:12.
  • Purpose: The goal of this abstinence is to protect the spiritual life and maintain a clean conscience in a hostile environment.

Viewing life as a temporary “camping” experience on the journey Home perfectly aligns with the biblical view of Christians as pilgrims and sojourners (1 Peter 2:11), dwelling in temporary “tents”.

Key Aspects of the Christian Camping Journey:

  • A Temporary Home: Earthly life is seen as temporary, with our true home in heaven.
  • God’s Presence: Just as camping involves being close to nature, it is a reminder that God’s presence “encamps” around those who fear Him (Psalm 34:7).
  • Dependence & Faith: Camping requires dependence on limited resources, reminding believers to trust in God for daily needs rather than their own understanding.

We essentially are “camping” now, it means we are walking by faith, resting in His Presence, and looking forward to the permanent Home that awaits us as believers. Happy ‘camping’ on the journey!
