Super – Prefix or Slang
As a word, “super” derives from Latin, meaning “over,” “above,” or “beyond.”
- Prefix: Used in words like superhuman or supermarket.
- Adjective: Meaning excellent or of the highest degree.
- Slang/Adverb: Used in casual conversation as a synonym for very or extremely (e.g., “That is super cool!”).
In the Bible, the “natural Man” refers to a person as they are born into the world—governed by human nature, instincts, and worldly wisdom. The concept is used to explain that humanity, on its own, cannot inherently grasp spiritual truths without God’s guidance.
Key Characteristics of the Natural Man
- Spiritual Blindness: In 1 Corinthians 2:14, the Apostle Paul states that the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God because they are considered “foolishness.” 1 Corinthians 2:14 states that unspiritual or “natural” people cannot accept the truth of God’s Spirit because they view them as foolishness. Without the Holy Spirit, individuals lack the spiritual discernment necessary to understand or evaluate divine wisdom.

- Inherited State: The term contrasts humanity’s fallen, Earthly state (inherited from Adam) with the transformed, “spiritual” state made possible through grace.
