One of the most relatable and hilarious Christian misunderstandings happens with misheard song lyrics or “mondegreens,” where kids confidently belt out gibberish in Sunday school.
A classic example is the hymn A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, which features the lyric, “A bulwark never failing”. Children famously sing it as, “A bullfrog never failing.” It’s hard to un-picture a giant, amphibious choir leader when you sing it as an adult!Another classic is from the hymn Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing, which famously includes the line: “Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love.” Many congregations look back on singing it as, “Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the car I love.”
