The amazing fact that was raised in my heart is God created all things seen and unseen. God is King over all things! Yes, they may try. Few things bring an expression of MIGHT as when children of The Most High are attempted to be overcome!
The Word says:
For there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel; now it shall be said of Jacob and Israel, ‘What has God wrought!’
Num. 23.23. RSV
Numbers 23:23 declares the unbreakable protection of God over His people, assuring that no occult curse, hex, or divination can succeed against those He blesses. It ends with a powerful invitation to shift our perspective and marvel at His mighty, undeniable works.
1. Impotence of Human Schemes
- The Context: King Balak of Moab hired the diviner Balaam to curse the Israelites, hoping to weaken them in battle. Instead, God forces Balaam to speak blessings.
- The Message: The words “no enchantment” and “no divination” mean that human schemes, witchcraft, or negative words hold no supernatural power over those who belong to God. God’s blessing overrides any curse.
2. Divine Defense
- The Message: You cannot be manipulated by supernatural interference if you are secure in God’s care. Your strength and provision come from Him, making you unshakeable.
3. Acknowledging His Marvels
- The Context: “According to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!”
- The Message: This is a call to recognize and give glory to God’s miraculous intervention. It challenges you to look at your circumstances and the blessings in your life, marveling at how God has actively provided, protected, and guided you.
The statement that God is above every essence in creation—a concept known as divine transcendence—is a foundational belief across many theological traditions. It affirms that the Creator is uncreated, distinct from His creation, and possesses a supreme being that surpasses all physical and spiritual realms.
Exploring this topic spans several areas:
- The Creator-Creature Distinction: Theologians emphasize a fundamental boundary: there is God, and there is not-God. Creation is made ex nihilo (out of nothing), meaning God’s divine essence exists eternally independent of anything He created. [1]
- Divine Simplicity: Many philosophical traditions, such as classical theism, hold that God’s essence is not composed of parts or limited by the physical definitions that apply to the natural world.
- Scriptural and Exegetical Perspectives: Biblical texts echo this supremacy. For example, in the New Testament, passages like Philippians 2:9-11 proclaim a name above every name, while Colossians 1:16-17 highlights that all things are created by, through, and for Him.
- Immanence vs. Transcendence: While God is above all creation in His essence and power, teachings on omnipresence (as discussed by The Gospel Coalition) also emphasize that God is intimately present within creation to sustain it.
