Colossians 3:5 and 8 tells believers to stop doing bad earthly actions and to clean up their speech.
Verse 5: Put to Death Earthly Sins
Verse 5 lists bad habits you should stop completely:
- Sexual immorality: Having improper physical relations.
- Impurity: Living a morally dirty life.
- Lust and evil desires: Craving wrong things.
- Greed: Loving money or objects too much, which God calls idolatry (worshiping things instead of God). [1]
Verse 8: Put Aside Angry Speech
Verse 8 lists bad attitudes and words to throw away:
- Anger and rage: Having hot tempers.
- Malice: Wishing harm on others.
- Slander: Telling lies or mean things about people.
- Filthy language: Using dirty words from your mouth.
