When Israel departed from Jehovah-God and built altars and temples to false gods, they supposed they would stand by their own strength. They built high the walls of their cities and fortified them. They forgot God but trusted in their armies to defend them. But in the end, they all went into captivity.
O God, You are our sure defense, a tower of strength that we can run to in time of trouble. There is nothing that can touch us when You do not allow it. We are safe in Your almighty care. But those who go after false gods and false christs, who depart from the faith as apostates, were never truly Yours. “They went out from us because they were not all of us.” (1 John 2:19) We tremble for their fate and pray you to grant them repentance. But we rejoice in You and know You will ever defend us.
